Boating Activities...
This has been an unusual summer with a majority of members away during our usual boating activities - which has forced us to cancel our June and July cruises.
Four boats arrived in pleasant weather, set up our canopies and settled in to snack and enjoy each other’s company. After we were all set, down came the rain. We ate lunch listening to the patter of rain on the shelters and the river with flashing lights and thunder as an accompaniment off in the distance Every so often, it was time to empty the water out of the canopies and to give all a bit of a refreshing spray. In general thunder storms do not last long in “sunny” Florida and about 1430 the skies cleared and we headed back to our home ports.
Larry's Island 8/16/08 - Picnic in the rain
Hoping for clear weather for our 13 September boating activity, we will cruise to Down The Hatch Restaurant by either land or water. This activity is coordinated by Paul Yeaton. The Restaurant is now on the NSB water taxi route for those who prefer to try that means of travel. If you have not been on the taxi, it is a must to do sometime. Those who wish to caravan, will meet in front of the Boat and Ski Club at 1115. Please let Paul know if you are coming - either way.
Down the Hatch 9/13/08 - Ponce Inlet
September 13th was a great day for boating, calm waters, gentle breezes and NO rain. Almost all the boats that went had EXTRA room on board. Remember, if you need a ride let the chairman of the event know and he/she will get a ride for you. Last minute accommodations can be made, for example if you leave the ignition on and the boat battery is dead when you are ready to leave, you can ride with someone else.
Time: 0930, Location: Reichert’s Dock or Launching at National Park October’s boating activity will feature a kayak/canoe excursion starting at Reichert’s dock in Bethune Beach at 0930 or launching in the Canaveral National Park boat ramp to join up with everyone for about a two hour paddle. The trip will end with a picnic around noon in the pavilions on the west side of the Mary McCloud Bethune Park. The Reicherts may be able to supply or borrow a few kayaks-- and I know there are rentals available nearby--so save the day and COME -- even if you can't do the boat trip, enjoy THE PICNIC as it is for landlubbers as well as boaters. Bring your own lunch and it will be transported to Bethune Park via land. Please bring water, sun screen and wear water shoes. Contact Paul Reichert phone or email for reservations.
November 15, 2008 - General Meeting and Boating Activity. Don't forget about our famous November Oyster/Shrimp Roast on Saturday, Nov. 15th on Dick's Island. The festivities start at 1100 hrs. Chef Larry Willwerth (assisted by Bob Johnson on the tube steaks) promise a gourmet feast of fried oysters and shrimp. Members (and guests) who don't have a boat can contact Paul Yeaton, Boating Activities Chairman , as should members who will volunteer to share room on their boats for the ride over to Dick's Island. Commander Paul and Elaine Reichert have graciously offered their "water taxi" to anyone needing a ride--they plan to leave from the Kennedy Park ramp at 1030 hrs.--give them a call if you'd like to go with them.
Please RSVP to Toni Howington (Jr.) or email her.
