Retrospect - Paul Yeaton thinks we should change his title from boating activities chairman to a land chairman. Once again, the weather intervened and sent us to Halifax River Yacht Club last Saturday using our land cruisers. We waited until the last minute to call off using our boats, but high winds decreed that sensible boaters would not venture out unnecessarily.

The food was delicious, the company upbeat, and the facility is one of the nicest around so our day without our
boats was pleasurable. We were pleased to have Bobby Bray, Daytona Beach Cdr, and Larry and Janet Madama from the Daytona Squadron join us. (The winner of the ocean picture, painted by Dot Richards, was Denise Benny)

April 10, 2010 - Boating Activity Larry's Island Spaghetti Dinner. This is our annual island spaghetti dinner )11 am) provided by our Chef Larry Willwerth. He along with his helper, wife Joan, cook their special recipe sauce, the spaghetti on the island and heat their Italian bread generously coated with seasoned butter. Please bring your own place setting, a dish to share, drinks, and chairs for comfort. (warm weather often brings several members into the water for a cooling swim) Call Paul Yeaton for reservations and arrangements for gathering to come through the back waters. Cost $4. NO BOAT - NO PROBLEM - For reservations and boat needs call Elaine Reichert

May 15, 2010 -  Titusville - Sand Point - D/23 Picnic & Boat Race. The Titusville picnic starts with the summer council meeting at the LaCita Country Club at 0830. Right after the council meeting, we all head to Sand Point Park and the D/23 picnic and boat race. Time about 1130. Titusville will have the corn, soda, beer and wine as last year. This is a bring your picnic, and even a chair for boat viewing if standing is not your forte. Titusville always has a “million” door prizes as well as their 50/50. This is their money maker for the year. Boats will be caravanning and land cruisers participating. Cost is $5.00 Reservations - Elaine Reichert 424 - 0378.

May 22 - 28th - Safe Boating Week

United States Coast Guard has for the past several years been pushing the use of Life Jackets. Most accidents

are reported involving smaller boats and often boaters have not been wearing a PFD which might have saved

a life. Two years ago the USCG provided USPS vessel examiners with inflatable's for their use while boating

and doing their examinations. This year The Florida Fish and Wild Life Conservation Commission (FWC) has teamed up with the USCG to publicize operation “Wear It.” Boats will be going from Jacksonville to Miami on the ICW to carry out this promotion.

On Tuesday, 25 May at 1000, they will be at the Ponce Coast Guard Station. Please mark your calendars and, as many as possible, plan to attend. This will be our participation in safe boating week.

June 12, 2010  - come by boat or land cruiser to the luncheon/rendezvous 1100 @ Goodrich Seafood, Oak Hill - relax with a drink on their spacious docks enjoying the river view before gathering for lunch. Reservations - Denise Benny.

July 10, 2010  - Fun on the water with our yearly raft-up near Fire Cracker Island, Edgewater - across from the Kennedy Park boat ramp and around to the back side - bring a lunch and we like to share - even a good time to get
in the water to clean your boat! Reservations - Paul Reichert

August14, 2010  - Larry’s Island covered dish luncheon/cruise @ 1100 - Location - near marker 13 around behind the island - to get there, you must navigate fairly close to the south side - somewhat near the island to your left - all size boats can make it just watching as you go between the islands to get to the back side. The venture is worth the trouble as one can swim, less wakes from larger boats and more privacy. Bring your own - drinks, dish to share, place settings, chairs, and bug spray. Reservations: Bob Johnson 386 - 756 - 1094

The NOAA BookletChart™ is an experimental product that you can print at home for free. They are made to help recreational boaters locate themselves on the water.

The Booklet Chart is reduced in scale and divided into pages for convenience, but otherwise contains all the information of the full-scale nautical chart. Bar scales are also reduced in scale, but are accurate when used to measure distances in a BookletChart. Excerpts from the United States Coast Pilot are included. Most chart notes are consolidated on a single page for easy reference. Emergency information for the charted area is printed on the back cover.

Booklet charts are updated weekly for all Notice to Mariners.
